duration estimate in CPM

The duration estimate for CPM is taken as the most likely estimate. This is what I have read in Kim Heldman's book. But in Oliver 75 questions he has given all three estimates optimistic, pessimistic and most likely. So if I have to calculate the length of the critical path should I calculate with the pert method or take it as the most likely one.
Went through all posts in your blog but could not find that which duration is considered for critical path.
